17-B-20 Drug Testing – Establishment

Establish new article “Drug Testing and Reinstatement Procedures” as Article VIII of Bylaws. Establish Article VIII, Section A as follows:

Renumber articles accordingly

The NAIA conducts testing for performance enhancing drugs at NAIA National Championship and NAIA Invitational competitions. The following penalties and processes shall apply for any student(s) who tests positive on such a drug test.

For eligibility requirements related to drug education, refer to Bylaws Article V, Section C, Item 16.

SECTION A – APPEAL OF A POSITIVE TEST

An institution may appeal the results of a positive test. The National Drug Testing and Education Committee will consider all such appeals, and will consider any applicable medical exemptions.

Intent: To establish Article VIII for all necessary drug testing requirements, penalties and procedures at NAIA National Championship and Invitational competitions, and to create the National Drug Testing and Education Committee as the body which will hear any appeals of a positive test.
